Hissing cockroaches are essential to Madagascar’s forests. Natural gardeners, they eat leaf debris, which is converted into nutrients for the soil. They are the only known insects to use their abdomen to make noise.

The beautiful butterfly starts out life as a wiggly caterpillar. Like many other insects, it undergoes metamorphosis, a process in which an individual makes a dramatic transformation in shape, form, and habits. The monarch butterfly is admired around the world for its amazing annual migration and its deep orange, black veined wings.
