Camel Baby Debuts at Bronx Zoo

June 25, 2012

Born in March, our new dromedary camel calf weighed 80 pounds at birth. The youngster could weigh more than 1,500 when he reaches adulthood.

As the only white member of the herd, our new dromedary camel calf stands out from his herd at Wild Asia. The male youngster is unique for another reason, too: he's the first dromedary camel born at the zoo since 1982.

Native to Northern Africa and Arabic regions of Asia, dromedary camels only possess one hump.
