Welcome Nala, Adamma, & Shani
May 23, 2010
The results are in! We tallied your votes and three clear winners rose to the top. The two girls will be called Nala, or “gift” in Swahili, and Adamma, or “beautiful child” in Igbo, and the boy will go by Shani, or “wonderful” in Swahili.
A big thank you from all of us at the Zoo—Sukari and M’wasi included! The lion family is now complete.
The winning set of names received 40 percent of the vote, and Sahara, Savannah and Upepo came in second place with 24 percent. The other three sets of choices—Nkiru, Penda, and Kamili; Imani, Bahari, and Dakarai; and Asali, Mbali, and Bakari—received 14 percent, 13 percent, and 9 percent of the vote, respectively.
Come see the cubs, now four months old, on your next trip to the
African Plains. Now that they’re big enough to play with their older sister, Moxie, there’s even more hustle and bustle than before!
