Activities
Our acrobatic white-throated bee-eaters hunt live crickets on the wing during the daily feeding at 2:45 p.m. in the World of Birds. Watch their amazing aerial tricks and ask a zookeeper your questions about birds.
Imagine bugs so big you can ride them! Enjoy a true flight of fancy aboard a long-legged praying mantis, a bright green grasshopper, or another of your favorite creepy-crawlies. A dung beetle chariot provides a more sedate—and silly—ride. The Bug Carousel is open year-round.
During the daily feeding in the Russell B. Aitken Sea Bird Colony at 3:30 p.m., watch Magellanic penguins come out of their dens or up from the deep and bob for fish. Ask a keeper your questions about the birds.
Visit the Monkey House to watch a training demonstration at 2:30 p.m. daily. Monkeying around is all in a day’s work for keepers who work with the primates on various behaviors that are fun for people, too.
At the heart of the park, bark hello to California sea lions and meet their keepers. Two daily feeding and training demonstrations for the Zoo’s noisiest residents make the sea lion pool one of our most popular attractions.
Go nose-to-nose with Amur tigers on a woodland that recreates the Russian Far East. During three daily tiger feeding and enrichment demonstrations, discover how training, toys, and foraging games help the big cats stay fit and stimulated.
